Pan-American Consultants, Inc. (PCI) conducted a Phase II cultural resource investigation of 12 acres in the eastern portion the S & F Brick Company (see the investigation area map). This investigation is documented in a report entitled Phase II Cultural Resources Investigation of the Sayre & Fisher Brick Company Site (28Mi163) for the Neptune Regional Transmission System Project, Borough of Sayreville, Middlesex County, New Jersey (2002). PCI excavation trenches and units were established in the portion of the S & F brickworks that contained fire brick and enamel brickworks. This investigation was based on the analysis of various historical maps and aimed to identify specific components and operations of the S & F plant. Field testing was to a large extent dictated by extensive ground disturbance resulting from two demolition episodes at the brickworks in the 1940s and in 1970-1971.
