Mixing Rooms
At S & F plant circa 1890, the clay was brought from the clay pits and transferred up the ramp (in the center of the photo) to the mixing room. After mixing, the clay was transferred to the press rooms to be formed into the brick shape, and then it was brought to the drying sheds or yards. The bricks dried for up to a month before being fired in the kilns (Sayreville Historical Society, 2001: 14).
